Trimlite Clowns by Swarovski – Thank you for the Smiles!

I recently learned that the first week of August is celebrated as ‘National Clown Week’….an interesting piece of trivia that I was unaware of.  Clowns come in all shapes and sizes.  Many clowns wear happy faces.  Some clowns have special talents.  Some clowns juggle. Some clowns do magic.  Often, clowns can be found in a circus, at a theme park, in children’s hospitals, and in parades.  If you see a clown, smile and let them know they’ve made you happy.

The famous crystal brand produced Swarovski Trimlite clowns in the 1980’s decade.  All the Trimlite clowns were introduced in 1983 and retired in 1988. These Swarovski clowns were all a part of the “Circus Clowns and Marching Band” group.

Swarovski Trimlite Clowns

The 6 Trimlite Clowns by Swarovski are as follows (5 digit part number listed after name)

  • Trimlite Tall Clown – 52701
  • Trimlite Roller Skating Clown – 52702
  • Trimlite Clown on Tricycle – 52703
  • Trimlite Clown with Umbrella – 52704
  • Trimlite Clown Juggler- 52705
  • Trimlite Clown with Cannon – 52706

All the Swarovski Trimlite clowns incorporate the typical clown characteristics.  They have silly clown hats.  They have oversized clown feet.  Some are performing their ‘special clown talent’.   And best of all, the clowns are all doing something to make people smile.

The Swarovski logo that would be found on these crystal figurines is the Trimlite “T”.  The  Trimlite logo is stamped in the metal of the figurine.  The Swarovski boxes for these figurines were white boxes with gold-colored plastic ribbons. Certificates are not applicable to these figurines as there is no such paperwork as a ‘Trimlite certificate’.

These Swarovski clown figurines retailed for $30 or $50 each in the 80’s when they were available in retail stores.  Now, on the Swarovski secondary market or on online auctions, the clowns are likely to cost $200 to $300 each for ones in excellent condition with original packaging.

It is worthwhile to mention that the production quality of crystal figurines has vastly changed in the past 30 years.  It is not unusual to see rough edges  or other imperfections on the older crystal because that was likely acceptable standards at the time.  Many serious crystal collectors will not accept chipped crystal figurines, but should be mindful that one considered ‘mint’ at that time will not likely as pristine as figures that are presently produced and sold.  Now, due to the age of the Trimlite figurines, the gold has possibly dulled, tarnished, or even chipped off.  Collectors should keep these things in mind when setting their own personal standards of acceptability into their own collection;  do not require standards higher than what Swarovski themselves expected in the 1980’s.

Crystal Exchange America presently has 3 of the 6 Trimlite Clown figurines offered on their site, ranging in price $215 – $350. They can be found in “Vintage Swarovski” category, “Trimlite and Zales” sub-category of the store.

Swarovski Active Crystals USB Pen, USB Heart, and USB Memory Key

This evening I came across some functional issues in the Swarovski “Active Crystals” product line.  Honestly, I hadn’t really checked out that area of the crystal brand’s web site until today.  But I did find it intriguing and the Swarovski USB stick products charming enough to write about.

Swarovski USB Memory Key (turtle)
Swarovski USB Memory Key (turtle)

Swarovski USB Memory Key accessories…the USB is found hidden inside a cute little animal. Each sparkly pet can hold up to 4GB data. There are:

  • Swarovski Chloy the turtle.  Chloy is available in either green or purple.  Swarovski USB Chloy retails for $100.
  • Swarovski Howard the pig.  Howard is available in either pink or black.  Swarovski USB Howard retails for $100.
  • Swarovski Maurice the bird.  Maurice is available in either yellow or blue. Swarovski USB Maurice retails for $90.
  • Swarovski Pearly the rabbit.  Pearly is available in either red or white. Swarovski USB Pearly retails for $90.

Swarovski USB Necklace

Swarovski USB Heart Necklaces are funky devices that hang on a stainless steel chain.  The smaller sparkly heart is the part that is the USB drive.  It is decorated with 54 small crystal stones.  It holds up to 4 GB data and is available in five different colors: crystal, blue zircon, Indian siam (red), light rose (pink), and violet (lavender).  All five colors of the Swarovski USB necklaces retail for $75 each.

Swarovski USB Pen

And last of the Swarovski USB devices are the Crystalline USB pens.  These 2-in-1 units function both as a pen and a USB drive.  The body of the ink pen is filled with 200 crystal stones accenting or coordinating with the barrel of the pen.  Users simply pull the pen apart to reveal the USB drive. The Swarovski Crystalline USB pen is available in five different colors: anthracite (black), aquamarine, (light blue), Indian sapphire (looks like silver in the pictures??), light amethyst (lavender), and white pearl.  The Swarovski USB pens retail for $75 each.

USB flash drives (4GB) can generally be found for under $20.  But if you are a friend of a Swarovski crystal fanatic, and you are looking for gift ideas, these Swarovski USB devices may be something to consider.  At the Swarovski web site, you can go to the ‘Fashion Accessories’ category, then to ‘Active Crystals®’.  There, you can find all the Swarovski USB sticks mentioned in the post.

Swarovski Designer Stefanie Nederegger – an artist profile by the Kristall Buzz

The Swarovski brand has employed over 60 designers for their famous crystal figurines.  There are certain to be many other talented individuals who contribute to these fantastic crystal designs, but generally, only a single individual is credited for the majority of the figurine designs.

Swarovski Designer Stefanie Nederegger
Stefanie Nederegger

Stefanie Nederegger is a Swarovski artist that joined the design team in 2004.  Her education included coursework at Innsbruck HTL and training at the College of Glassmaking and Design in Kramsach.  According to information on the official Swarovski web site, Swarovski has always had some influence in her life since they are so well known Wattens and Tyrol.

Stefanie Nederegger thinks it would be interesting to transform any type of animal into crystal figurines because of the ‘play on form and facets’.  She also likes colored accents to make crystal ‘vibrant and give it harmony’.

Stefanie Nederegger has been credited with ten Swarovski crystal figurine designs since she began with the company.  Five of the designs are in the Silver Crystal product line, four designs are for figurines in the Swarovski Lovlots product line, and one design in the Crystal Paradise line.  The list below is ordered by launch date and consists of the product name, then Swarovski system number, followed by launch and retirement years.

Of all the Stefanie Nederegger designs, my favorite one is the Lovlots figurine Camille.  I like Camille’s copper color, and I like cats.  Great figurines Stefanie looking forward to seeing your next designs!

Swarovski Bazooka Dallas Mavericks Crystal Ring Pop

According to Fox Sports Ohio, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban, was considering NOT to purchase championship rings for his basketball team.  But Bazooka felt that the Dallas Mavericks should have a reward for their NBA championship.  That being said, the Bazooka candy brand has once again added some Swarovski crystal bling to their ring pops to make them ‘special’ and commemorate an exciting event in 2011.

Dallas Mavericks Swarovski Ring Pop
Dallas Mavericks Swarovski Ring Pop

The Mavericks Swarovski ring pop features the team colors of blue and white.  The base of the blue ring pop is decorated with blue and clear Swarovski crystal stones.  Some sources say it is edible, but same say that it is not edible.

Bazooka also created a limited edition Swarovski ring pop to resemble Kate’s engagement ring. The Mavericks crystallized ring pop looks amazingly similar to the ring pop to celebrate the wedding of Prince William to Kate in April, 2011.  Pictures of the Royal Limited Edition Swarovski Ring Pop can be found in the Kristall Buzz April 2011 Archives.

I wonder what event will next be honored with a special Bazooka Swarovski Ring Pop!

Swarovski Trimlite Hot Air Balloon Crystal Figurines

This weekend, there was a Hot Air Balloon event (Ohio Challenge) here in my local community.  Hot air balloons are beautiful, elegant, peaceful..  For the balloon pilots, this is an event, a challenge, a competition.  Regardless of your roll, I think hot air balloons bring on excitement for people of all ages.

Years ago, our favorite crystal brand made hot air balloons in the Swarovski Trimlite product line.  There were 8 different combinations of Trimlite Balloon products under 4 different Swarovski-assigned part numbers.  The Swarovski hot air balloons were available in 2 different sizes:  3″ in height and 3.5″ in height.  The Swarovski hot air balloons were available with 2 different metal finishes:  gold colored and silver colored.  Swarovski hot air balloons were available in 2 different crystal colors:  crystal cal (more or less clear) and vitrail medium (more or less fuscia pink)

The size (3″ or 3.5″ tall) is NOT distinguishable from the part number.  The Swarovski Trimlite product numbers were assigned as follows:

  • 72403 – Trimlite Hot Air Balloon with gold colored accents and Crystal Cal balloon.
  • 72404 – Trimlite Hot Air Balloon with gold colored accents and Vitrail Medium balloon.
  • 72405 – Trimlite Hot Air Balloon with silver colored accents and Crystal Cal balloon.
  • 72406 – Trimlite Hot Air Balloon with silver colored accents and Vitrail Medium balloon.
Swarovski Trimlite Balloon

All eight Swarovski Trimlite Hot Air Balloons were introduced in 1982 and retired in 1986.  The Trimlite Balloon figurines were part of the “Boutiques” group.  The 3″ hot air balloons retailed for $50 USD.  The 3.5″ hot air balloons retailed for $80 USD each.

The Swarovski logo on these crystal figurines was NOT the traditional Block SC or Swan logo. This is because they were not in the Silver Crystal product line…they were in the Trimlite product line.  The Trimlite logo is the letter “T”, and is likely stamped into the metal of the Swarovski figurine, not on the crystal as is usually done now.  It is very possible that a logo may not be found on the Trimlite balloon at all.  Use care when purchasing crystal hot air balloons and check with reputable sources, like Crystal Exchange America or Warner’s Blue Ribbon Books on Swarovski, to ensure your are getting an authentic product if that is a major concern of the purchase.

Crystal Exchange America presently has 4 of the 8 Trimlite Hot Air Balloon figurines offered on their site, ranging in price $280 – $300. They can be found in “Vintage Swarovski” category, “Trimlite and Zales” sub-category of the store

Swarovski Nirvana Ring Sweepstakes

Noted for its expert craftsmanship and elegant appeal, the Nirvana ring distinctively Swarovski’s iconic design and shines as a timeless classic among Swarovski rings.

Swarovski Nirvana Ring

The Nirvana ring, launched in 1998 after two years of technical research, is part of the Daniel Swarovski Couture collection. Available in a wide array of crystal colors, including white, red or blue flash, jet black, emerald green, tanzanite and lavender glitter, the assortment is enriched each season with a new shade.

Nirvana Crowne, which debuted in the FW 2010 collection. is encircled with crystals applied by hand using the exclusive Pointiage® technique, and the FW 2011 collection will introduce the Nirvana Petite ring, the latest variation of this contemporary classic.

To celebrate the ring’s enduring allure, Swarovski will hold a monthly sweepstakes (through the end of 2011) beginning on May 5, 2011. The winners will be awarded a Nirvana Ring, crafted in faceted clear crystal and silver. To enter the Nirvana Ring Sweepstakes, visit WWW.SWAROVSKI.COM/nirvana .

To enter the sweepstakes, participants are signing up to receive their Swarovski Newsletter, and being entered in the sweepstakes all at once.

Swarovski told me that collectors can enter the sweepstakes every month to have the best chance at winning, but will only receive only a single email of each newsletter.

The crystal brand has produced a video incorporating the Swarovski Nirvana Ring, and it is in the February Kristall Buzz Archives.

Best of luck to all crystal fanatics who enter the sweepstakes….I’ve got my entry in for the August drawing now!

Swarovski Crystal Embellished Linea Pro Flat Iron

Looking for a very special gift for a Swarovski crystal fanatic friend?  A lovely hair straightener may be an option?

Swarovski crystal embellished flat iron

I have found this Linea Pro Swarovski Crystal C2 Iron
that is individually numbered and made to order.  According to Amazon, there are over 2500 hand set Swarovski crystal stones on each flat iron.  The effort includes 8 man-hours of stone setting and 48 hours for the glue to cure.  Each Swarovski-studded flat iron includes a certificate of authenticity and plaque from the Swarovski factory.

The retail price is $850 USD!  That’s a whopper of a price for a flat iron, so hopefully it works as well as it sparkles.

While I saw this sparkly flat iron mentioned on a number of sites, I only found it available for purchase on the Amazon site.

It is surprizing at the number of power tools and electrical appliances that are being made these days, completely covered in Swarovski crystal stones!

Swarovski Store Locator – Handy Tool for Swarovski Crystal Shoppers

Looking for a new Swarovski crystal figurine?  You don’t like to order online without seeing it first?  You don’t have time for it to be shipped because you need it tomorrow?  Just locate the closest Swarovski store to make your purchase.

The Swarovski store locator is the answer to your question!  The Swarovski store locator is right on the Swarovski web site, so there won’t be a false positive ¦..indicating that the is a Swarovski store only to find out that the store no longer carries Swarovski crystal / products or that the store has even closed. The Swarovski store locator is easy to use:
  1. Pick the desired country / region
  2. Next, select the state / province
  3. Lastly, choose the town / city.

These shore steps will help any Swarovski crystal shopper in locating a store nearby.  The more broad information entered on the Store Finder form, the higher the number of stores will be displayed in the store finder search results.  The search results contain a lot of information:  Business Name and Type (Authorized Retailer or Swarovski Boutique), phone number, city, state, zip code (for stores in the USA), tiny icons indicating product lines carried at that location: Swarovski Jewelry, Swarovski Watches, Swarovski Figurines, Swarovski Fashion Accessories,  Swarovski Member Products (SCS), Swarovski Home Accessories, Swarovski Sunglasses, Swarovski Fragrances-Beauty, and Swarovski Gift Cards.

So be sure and bookmark the Swarovski Store Finder… you’ll never know when you might need it!

New Swarovski Model? Goo Hara has presence at the Swarovski and ‘House of Hello Kitty’ Event!

I’ve been seeing more on the internet about Goo Hara and Swarovski, but I still was uncertain as to how much is truth and just how much is rumor.

We all know who Swarovski is and all the history of the Swarovski crystal brand.  But how many USA Swarovski collectors know who Goo Hara is?  Goo Hara is from South Korea.  She’s 20 years old.  She is a singer in a group called Kara.  And now, it seems that she may be a model for Swarovski!  Information obtained on the internet indicated she participated in photo shoots and was well-liked by Swarovski.  Since Swarovski has NOT made any official press release, I don’t have any other details on the veracity.

Along with a number of other Japanese celebrities, Goo Hara did attend the event in Japan “Swarovski presents ‘House of Hello Kitty’ held June 29.  I saw video of Goo Hara posing with the Swarovski Hello Kitty purse launching very soon at the Swarovski and Hello Kitty.

Goo Hara posing with Swarovski Swan necklace, earrings, and barrette
Goo Hara at the Swarovski Hello Kitty event June 29

The Swarovski and ‘House of Hello Kitty’ event runs June 30 to July 10, 2011 at Omotesandou Hills in Japan.  Attendees have the option to purchase 31 Swarovski Hello Kitty goods directly.  Proceeds from purchases at this event go to the Japanese Red Cross for the earthquake relief fund.

If the Goo Hara – Swarovski relationship is true, she may be appearing in our Swarovski crystal quarterly magazines soon!
